The 2025 Central Utah workshop is just the latest in many workshops I have taken with David and Jennifer. I consider each one as a step forward in my journey to become a better landscape photographer. Although the locations may be different from one workshop to the other, David and Jennifer are consistent in their teaching philosophy and guidance toward your own personal growth. The Central Utah workshop presented us with many different opportunities and subject matter to challenge our photographic vision. There was more variation in the Utah landscape than I had expected, and I came away with some shots that I am very happy with.
If you participate in photography workshops with the goals of learning new skills and wanting to get guidance on how you can realize your own self expression but have been told that there's only one "correct" way to photograph a scene, you will be delighted to find that David and Jennifer can help you find how to "do you". Your images can be your own and not necessarily look like everyone else's who came to the same scene. There are ample opportunities to learn ICM, finding abstracts and small scenes and experimenting with wide angle perspectives, but you can also approach things in your own way if you want; this is encouraged. I have found that this is the best way for me to personally grow as a photographer. Learn as much as you can about many techniques and then utilize that knowledge to advance your own style.
We were so fortunate on this workshop to have all kinds of dramatic weather (stormy clouds, a little snow) and we went to locations that took the best advantage of these changing conditions. Honestly, it was just fun!
Looking forward to more adventures and opportunities to learn and grow.
I just finished a second workshop with david and jennifer in central utah. I truly appreciate the hardwork and extensive preparation they do beforehand. You get all the information you could possibly need beforehand and during, such that you don't need to worry about anything. The whole workshop is designed to promote each participant's vision, learning and goals. From the first session to the last, the only focus was on giving us the tools to achieve what we want in our photography. They were there to give us personal guidance on how to accomplish what we wanted to do and helped us follow what we wished to shoot. In this setting I allowed myself to experiment and try out new things with my photography. I also feel my post processing has advance significantly as I understand now the logic of what I can do in lightroom. I highly recommend joining them as this is the best investment in your photography.
I just returned home from the Central Utah workshop. Despite the windy conditions I came home with a huge pile of photos to work through. David and Jennifer prepared us well for the conditions and provided excellent support while in the field. I can't say enough about their approach to teaching. They make themselves available for on the spot coaching and direction without making me feel silly for having asked the question. They have the ability to work with a wide range of photography skill levels across various formats (camera brand). I will be a repeat customer again as soon as I can afford to do so.
I am looking forward to playing with David's presets. I think that will help my processing skills greatly. I look forward to the release of this product as I am sure it will revolutionize my productivity.
I meant to drop a note to you about these videos - fantastic work. So much better and more informative than anything else out there. Looking forward to others (I purchased all three from you — hopefylly more are coming)
I've taken nearly a half dozen workshops with David and Jennifer, and I always come away feeling that I have improved as a photographer. They love to teach, and their workshops have a good balance of classroom and photography time. I most recently concluded a workshop with them in Anza Borrego, and despite the unexpected closure of locations to which they had planned to take us to (and a complete lack of spring flowers), they improvised and brought the group to other interesting spots. It's very telling that nearly everyone in the workshop was a repeat customer, with at least one client having been with them over 10 times. They are happy to provide friendly feedback on composition, camera usage and editing, and one leaves their workshops with a greater understanding of quality photography. Great folks, great photographers, and great locations--highly recommended!
Hi David,
I was not going to mention this but since you asked...not really a complaint but an observation.
The Nordic Inn does not have Microwaves in their rooms (as far as I can tell). Most people could care less but I do. So I made a reservation in a hotel across the street (at the Grand Lodge). Not a problem - within an easy walking distance :-)
Thanks!
Jacob
This was my second workshop with David and Jennifer, and once again, it was an incredibly rewarding experience. Both workshops provided a wonderful balance of learning and creativity in a supportive and nurturing environment.
David and Jennifer are true educators. With their kind and thoughtful approach, they offer insightful guidance that helps you refine your own vision rather than imposing theirs. I truly appreciate the extra effort they put into both field and classroom sessions to ensure every participant gains valuable skills and confidence.
Jennifer’s expertise in ICM techniques introduced me to new and creative ways of capturing images, while David’s post-processing techniques—along with his brand-new presets—have completely transformed and simplified my editing workflow. Thank you, David!
Beyond their technical knowledge, Jennifer and David are incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and attentive workshop leaders. I highly recommend their workshops and am already looking forward to my next one with them!
David and Jennifer's Anza-Borrego photography workshop was an exceptional experience, blending technical instruction and artistic exploration in the stunning desert landscapes of Anza Borrego Desert State Park. Despite the absence of wildflowers, David and Jennifer found phenomenal shooting locations that showcased the park’s diverse beauty, from small cactus flowers to dramatic badlands and slot canyons. Their expertise transformed challenges into opportunities, ensuring that we captured compelling images.
David’s instruction on using his presets was particularly enlightening. His tailored approach streamlines the post-processing workflow and enables you to enhance textures and colors with precision. His guidance proved invaluable in bringing out the desert’s rich hues and intricate details, elevating final images.
Jennifer’s sessions on intentional camera movement (ICM) and intimate landscapes added yet another creative dimension to the workshop. Her techniques encouraged participants to experiment with motion blur for abstract compositions and focus on smaller, often overlooked details of the desert environment. Her emphasis on artistic expression inspired me to see beyond traditional landscape photography and embrace unique perspectives.
The workshop’s structure balanced field sessions at sunrise and sunset with classroom instruction during midday. David covered techniques like focus stacking and Lightroom best practices as well as provided personalized feedback during image critiques. The small group size fostered camaraderie and ensured individual attention, making the experience both intimate and impactful.
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park was a mesmerizing backdrop for this immersive learning journey. Its vast wilderness and dramatic rock formations provided endless inspiration. March’s mild temperatures further enhanced the experience, with only one shoot in gale force winds.
David and Jennifer's Anza-Borrego photography workshop was a blend of technical skill-building, artistic exploration, and community connection.
Though I have been going to Anza Borrego Desert State Park for over 20 years, the time I spent there with David and Jennifer helped me slow down and see Borrego in a new and deeper way. Their expert knowledge of light , setting and moment allowed me to capture meaningful and personal images that reflect the beauty of what at first glance appears a harsh and unforgiving environment.
Image review and processing sessions lead by David and Jennifer provided not only the tools but also insight on how to truly make our images our own.
If you can go on only one Workshop - go with David and Jennifer and you won't be disappointed.
Full disclosure, I am a repeat client having done past workshops with David and Jennifer. There is a very good reason for that; they are simply the BEST. Everything is done with intention and consideration. Consideration concerning their clients, consideration concerning locations , and consideration concerning locations vis a vis real time weather conditions. No flying by the seat of one's pants. The locations have been scouted in advance, so when weather conditions rapidly change, they know which location would be best for that day's weather. This workshop was unique because we went to locations that are not often visited by workshops. They were harder to get to, and in two cases for sure, required a Jeep for safe travel. We went everywhere in a Jeep. Sure a few spots might have been accessible by rental car, but why risk getting stuck and ruining the workshop for all. Their teaching style is kind and helpful. It is never about what they insist you should photograph, but rather helping you to better accomplish what you envision. Ask yourself if you just want to take images that everyone else takes, or if you would rather be in a space where you can be yourself and take the images that speak to you. If it's that later, then David and Jennifer will exceed your expectations. The first workshop I took with them, I barely knew how to operate my camera, and yet I left with a feeling that I could get better and really enjoy this hobby. It doesn't matter what level photographer you are, you can be you and always be supported.
Both Jennifer and David are excellent photographers and teachers including post processing. In addition, their in-depth knowledge of the locations Makes for a well rounded workshop. They are the best!
David and Jennifer were a great team and did a superb job in organizing daily trips, lectures, and portfolio reviews. All outings were of high quality and easy to get to. This workshop rekindled my love and excitement for photography. The workshop participants were all at a high level in both knowledge and artistry. Both instructors were very helpful for technical problems in the field with David using Canon and Jennifer using Nikon. We all enjoyed the camaraderie over the workshop and I liked it so much I signed up for the Yellowstone workshop later this year. I also received a book of a selection of photos taken by the participants which was a reminder of how well everyone did over the week. In summary, this is a low key, non competitive and warm workshop that will go a surprisingly long way in improving your technical and conceptual expertise in photography.

Very nice booklet; great to see others work from the same areas.
David and Jennifer have gone the extra mile in preparing this beautiful portfolio of images created by the participants in the Yellowstone Intimate Landscapes workshop. The images are beautiful and it will serve as a wonderful reminder of an extraordinary week. Their thoughtfulness is extraordinary. Thank you David and Jennifer.
What a beautiful and thoughtful gift to commemorate the workshop. I truly appreciate it!
This collection of presets for Lightroom from David Kingham is extensive. They thoroughly cover just about anything that a photographer could think of trying to do in post processing using Lightroom. There are major benefits both for someone who wants "push button" processing and for those who will spend time exploring why David has chosen the included methods. For advanced photographers, the why will change how you approach processing.
Those who have seen David Kingham's work know that he's an extraordinary artist and photographer. Now he has developed a practical, wonderfully innovative set of tools for creatively processing images. These go far beyond standard presets to give you new ways of looking at your images and seeing new possibilities at virtually every step of the process. This well-organized, well-thought-out set of tools will help anyone, regardless of skill level. If you're serious about improving your images, you need this toolbox!
Rethink Landscape Presets are a toolkit unlike anything else out there. Distilling David Kingham’s years of expertise, this collection of presets will set your landscape images up for success. Ranging from Basic edits like ensuring the correct white balance to adding super special effects, they will put the “wow” in your landscapes. And all this while streamlining your workflow. Rethink Landscape Presets will help make your images better, faster.
These presets have been a game changer for me. They made the whole process of working on a picture so much easier and clearer. Instead of starting to play around with the different options and trying to figure out what I can do, these tools show me the different options, and then I can choose which ones work for me. The starting point presets are wonderful in helping me figure out the best tones to start with. So, instead of playing with the tone curve for quite some time till I get something I like, I can, with one press, see what the different options provide, and this makes this step so quick and easy. Then, the tools that allow me to look only at the shapes or the colors are a huge help to see how my composition works and what I need to tweak. Instead of imagining the shapes, I can just see them and make choices. In the tonal adjustment presets, I truly appreciate the ability to dodge and burn only highlights, as it makes the whole process really easy. The color adjustment presets again give you so many options for what you want to change and what you want to do. The ability to play around with the different options and see what works is a real-time saver. These presets also have different special tools - like sculpting clouds, reducing highlights in the sky, and so much more. Now, it takes me 15 minutes to edit a picture compared to more than 45 minutes, and the result is so much better. I couldn't ask for a better set of tools to make editing quick and fun.
I have attended many workshops with David and Jennifer, as well as workshops lead by other photographers. In my experience, David and Jennifer are truly the best in the business. Their attention to detail in the planning, execution, and follow up creates a valuable learning environment for all levels of photographers. The recent winter workshop to Yellowstone National Park was not only the best photography workshop I have participated in, but it was also the best travel experience of my life. I look forward to attending many more workshops with Exploring Exposure.
