The winter workshop in Yellowstone was truly a unique experience and adventure that no other workshop offers. Being inside the park at the yurt camp gave us the advantage of being at locations much earlier and staying later than would have been possible had we travelled into and out of the park each day. The yurt camp was clean and cozy, and the hospitality of the staff was exceptional. David and Jennifer did an excellent job planning and coordinating with personnel at the camp, allowing us to concentrate on our photography and enjoy the experience of winter in Yellowstone.
We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed the winter workshop in Yellowstone and found the yurt camp both cozy and convenient! It was our pleasure to handle the planning so you could focus on capturing the beauty of the park. Your kind words about our coordination and the camp's hospitality mean a lot to us. Looking forward to sharing more adventures with you!
David and Jennifer model a gentle, thoughtful approach to photography. No rushing, chasing, grasping. They have a familiarity which comes from much time spent photographing in Yellowstone. "Wandering with intent" took us to stunning locations at optimal times, and we had as much time as we needed to explore and hone our own vision of this beautiful place. Jennifer and David point out possibilities and stay available for questions. We stopped when and where views and subjects drew us to them. The three nights in Yurt Camp were key to this experience. The accommodations are cozy, the guides are top-notch, and the food was tasty, hearty, and beautifully presented. Being in the park, gave us a jump start for the early morning play of light and fog, wildlife, and natural beauty in the quieter side of the park. I came home with images from the "iconic" locations, but also with quiet scenes and a new appreciation for Yellowstone National Park, its landscapes, ecology, wildlife, and the relationships between them. If you're seeking a different approach to visiting Yellowstone, I would highly recommend this experience.
My wife and I had an incredible adventure on the Yellowstone Winter Expedition led by David Kingham and Jennifer Renwick of Exploring Exposure. What made this photography workshop truly exceptional was the time spent at the yurt camp, an experience so unique and immersive that words and pictures hardly do it justice.
We were able to practice and refine our skills in wildlife, landscape, and abstract photography in one of the most inspiring environments imaginable. Our deepest thanks go to David and Jennifer not only for selecting such an extraordinary location, but for creating a relaxed, supportive, and stress-free atmosphere that allowed us to grow and thrive under their expert guidance. They are truly exceptional instructors.
This was far more than a photography workshop focused on capturing images, it was a once-in-a-lifetime, life-changing experience. If you are seeking outstanding teachers, breathtaking landscapes, and an unforgettable yurt-camp adventure, you will not be disappointed.
Full disclosure, I am a repeat client having done past workshops with David and Jennifer. There is a very good reason for that; they are simply the BEST. Everything is done with intention and consideration. Consideration concerning their clients, consideration concerning locations , and consideration concerning locations vis a vis real time weather conditions. No flying by the seat of one's pants. The locations have been scouted in advance, so when weather conditions rapidly change, they know which location would be best for that day's weather. This workshop was unique because we went to locations that are not often visited by workshops. They were harder to get to, and in two cases for sure, required a Jeep for safe travel. We went everywhere in a Jeep. Sure a few spots might have been accessible by rental car, but why risk getting stuck and ruining the workshop for all. Their teaching style is kind and helpful. It is never about what they insist you should photograph, but rather helping you to better accomplish what you envision. Ask yourself if you just want to take images that everyone else takes, or if you would rather be in a space where you can be yourself and take the images that speak to you. If it's that later, then David and Jennifer will exceed your expectations. The first workshop I took with them, I barely knew how to operate my camera, and yet I left with a feeling that I could get better and really enjoy this hobby. It doesn't matter what level photographer you are, you can be you and always be supported.
I have attended many workshops with David and Jennifer, as well as workshops lead by other photographers. In my experience, David and Jennifer are truly the best in the business. Their attention to detail in the planning, execution, and follow up creates a valuable learning environment for all levels of photographers. The recent winter workshop to Yellowstone National Park was not only the best photography workshop I have participated in, but it was also the best travel experience of my life. I look forward to attending many more workshops with Exploring Exposure.
